Std 2. Mathematics (EM) 09 (01/02/2022)
Unit 3 There's a Limit

Today Amrita miss started our class with a game.

Ball Shooting

We need twenty disposable glasses and a small ball to play this game. Write '10' on ten glasses and '1' on other ten glasses. Arrange them in pyramid shape, six in the bottom and two on top, miss shown by miss.

Then first shooter can throw the ball. Count how many tens and ones fell down. Find the total point and write it down.

Now the second shooter can throw the ball, count the fallen glasses of tens and ones and calculate the total points.

Who got more points ? And calculate the difference.

              Today when we played the game with miss, miss got 21  (10 + 10 + 1) points and you got 47 (10 + 10 +10+ 10 + 1+ 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1) points.

47 -
21
__
26

The difference between 21 and 47 is 26. And you got 26 more points than miss and become winner.

Try to play this game with your friends or siblings.

Write Hundred in Different Ways (page 54)

All of you know ten tens make hundred and hundred ones make the same. Can you find and write some more ways to make hundred?

Example :-

99 +   1
95 +   5
90 + 10
50 + 50
49 + 51
_  + _
_  + _
_  + _

Playing with Numbers (page 55)

After that we watched the video of a beautiful garden. Miss brought four flowers from the garden. Each flower had a number - 1, 2, 3 and 4.

First, miss selected 1 and 2 and asked us to make different two digit numbers using that digits.

We made 12 and 21.

21 is the larger number and 12 is smaller among them. The difference between the numbers is 9. Miss shown it by removing 12 beads from a 21 bead chain.

21 - 12 = 9

Then miss selected 2 and 3. The numbers made with digits are 23 and 32. 32 is bigger and the difference is 9.

32 - 23 = 9

If we take 3 and 4, we can make 34 and 43. The difference between the numbers is 9.

All the answers are same because we choose nearby numbers.
